Liz

I found this watercolour I did of my wife, Liz. It was done during a cross country trip in the USA. After a long day of driving we were back in our hotel room relaxing.

Great memories, more to come!

Small Acrylic studies

Lately I picked up some acrylics and did a bunch of small studies. 5x7 in size, and fairly quick. Pretty happy with some of these, hope you like it!

old lady doodle doodle

Found this cool pen & ink brush for photoshop. Really fun to play with, just a 5 minute sketch this time, but I'm gonna play with it more in the future.

Edgar Payne studies.

So one of my favorite landscape painters are Edgar Payne. He does have a book called "Composition of Outdoor Painting", a book I have heard amazing things about from some people, while other people describe it as unreadable. At some point I'll probably try to get hold of a copy, but for now I think I'll just enjoy his paintings.  I have wanted to do some studies for a while, and the last two weeks I pulled myself together and got around to a quick-study every morning.

I think you can learn so much about shapes from this painter. Very helpful to paint through what I imagine to be his process.

We picked up these sample acrylic colours that came with a magazine and I tried them out. Heck if I know if they are good acrylic paints, but they were fun to play with at the end of the day.

Pastel Figure Drawing

I picked up some pastel by chance this week, and ended up having a lot of fun with it, I just love massing in the shapes and values. The pastel really covers up my heavy hand and current emphasis on construction drawing in a really nice way, I think.

Sketching around the city

Just spending some time getting back into painting digitally. Colour study from Pulp Fiction, after seeing the trailer for Django unchained I have been on a bit of a Tarantino marathon. Such great lighting and design in his movies, not that I did it justice in this sketch. Will have to try another one!

Last batch of Figure drawings from AAU

I am graduating from the Academy of Art this week. I was going to write something profound about that, but I have to go pick up my mom from the airport (!). So here it goes... It's been a long ride, and a great one. Graduation feels like a lot of things, but it no longer feels like the end of my student days. There is so much to learn still, and I am looking forward to it.

This is an assortment of drawings, some are from a super hero costume carnival that the comic book club at AAU hosted. I am not a big comic book guy, but there event was really great! Check out the next one if you go to the academy. Was even more fun than the regular costume carnival.
